Aimed at preschoolers – these panels all about skeletons, slightly larger than A3 and double-sided, formed part of a pack of goodies on the subject curated by the Australian Museum. All sorts of 3D objects, books and other learning materials were put into a large metal box with the 2 panels, ready to be loaned out to lucky schools as an educational experience. The panels were printed on vinyl with a metal substrate.
An illustration used in the book Brain Storms! Sampled textures and a 50’s style created a sense of fun and surprise reflected in the book’s stories.

am off to see The Tree of Life tonight, which has been much anticipated. It seem that friends who have seen it are divided down the middle: love it or hate it. I love its ambitiousness from what I’ve heard. Will let you know what I think and would like to hear your opinion of it also.
Island Bound – Kiskadee
Using a woodgrain texture, this is one of 16 little illustrations used in Island Bound, a novel for pre-teens about emotional displacement.
This illustration was used for a section in the book that dealt with grief for kids called ‘With tears in my eyes’.
Here we have Custard and Fred, the singing, dancing pencil and screwdriver.
A job where fun was had in spades creating these quirky illustrations using indian ink and a brush, and a myriad of textures.

Have you ever been to a concert where the graphics behind the band turned a good concert into a totally memorable one? I have. REM was one of the best examples I can recall. Also, predictably, the Pet Shop Boys (it was the 80’s ok?)

The future looks grim, the ozone layer has been destroyed and earth is at risk. Raki and Tando are on a mission to find a source of the rare substance telotion, which when heated creates masses of ozone.

The first book I designed for Pearsons NZ. This novel for pre/early teens deals with some heavy stuff – the loss of his mother and an emotionally absent dad lead Martin into the wrong company, until he discovers friendship in the unlikely form of a pair of ageing zoo lions. The cover needed to look dark and edgy, but tinged with hope.
